The Source

When I had my bout with cancer a dozen years ago now, Rosie Zamora, the former fearless leader of the Houston Wilderness and hiking buddy, sent me a copy of Mark Nepo's work entitled
The Book of Awakening.

It is a daily reader full of lessons he learned on his journey through the cancer and recovery experience. I have been reading it almost daily since 2001. Nepo shares his experiences, learnings, the wisdom of others and provides a meditation that reflects and reinforces the daily readings. Following his experiences has taught me many lessons and has helped open my soul to the Source. It has also provided me with a number of "aha" moments where bits of enlightenment are gifted to me by God and the Universe.

One of those lessons is that looking outside for the light is a long and futile journey. There was a big "aha" for me. Even though I knew better, I was always looking outside when the light of God is inside. Like many others, I had been looking in the wrong place for my inspiration and meaning.

I discovered that I need so spend more time minding my inner spiritual work and then let my light shine openly and freely into the world.

That was an "aha" moment for me. The Source, Spirit, God is inside all of us all of the time.
